Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at abad67ss@sbcglobal.net if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Stripping will not harm the base steel. There will be no warping of sheet metal and no loss of metal after cleaning. Only the coating and rust will be removed

Yes! Parts that are stripped will have a water based rust preventative them. This can be removed with any type of detergent cleaner. Once the RP has been removed that parts need to be painted ASAP to avoid flash rust. Break Clean is also a great option for those tight areas that are hard to reach. E-Coated parts must be lightly scuffed as you would treat any other primer prior to paint.

Yes and no. While we make every attempt to restore your parts to look like new, there are several things to keep in mind.

  • We are usually working with something that can be 50+ years old. There may be hidden body work that can't be seen under the paint.
  • Rust that is encapsulated between two pieces of metal, and has grown like a sponge is going to be almost impossible to remove. Think of trying to remove the jelly out of the inside of a doughnut without taking a bite! We have seen rust grow to over 1/4 thick in some areas. We do our best to remove as much as possible, but sometimes even our best isn't enough.
  • Every scratch, dent, and ding is going to show up once the part is cleaned. Even more so if we e-coat it, black highlights every flaw.

Yes! This is your epoxy primer. All that needs to be done is scuff it and prep like any other primer you would use prior to painting. You can also powder coat over the E-coat, providing the powder coating co. knows how this should be done. Most PC companies will mislead you because if they make a mistake, they can't just shoot more powder over the part. The powder actually bonds to the e-coat making it very durable!

If there is anything aluminum, plastic or zinc die-cast, it will be destroyed! Anything that is not steel must be removed, like the body tag on a firewall. We can clean aluminum and zinc die-cast parts, but this is a different process and we must be aware of it.

Springs must also be removed, the cleaning process will soften springs to some extent.

The more you can disassemble, the better job we can do to clean your parts.

We ask that you inventory every part when dropping off. We will ask you for a complete list when you come in and we will also tag your parts to track them. We will ask if there are any non-ferrous parts that we should be aware of. It is your RESPONSIBILITY to inform us of such. If we don't know about it, we may not catch them in time and they could be destroyed.

As a classic car owner, we understand how valuable and rare you parts could be. We strive to make sure you have a quality part to prep for paint. Please keep in mind, once we clean your part,  you may find damage that you were not aware of. Lead or other fillers will be removed, leaving you with what is underneath. We have actually seen fenders that a dealership repaired and never told the original buyer!
